MOCAP - motion capture systems
The planned Virtual Vision® system involves controlling an actor's digital character using data supplied by a motion-capture (MOCAP) system. Motion capture allows another person (e.g., a mime) to simulate the actor's movements. The mime's movements are transferred via computer software onto the actor's digital avatar or any other figure.
The R&D department's task is to develop algorithms that enable the transformation of the mime's movements onto any character. The process of transforming and deforming movement—and "dressing" the actor's "skeleton" in their realistic attire and appearance—will occur in real time; applying this to animation production will significantly accelerate the workflow and reduce costs. A database capable of rendering a realistic human character not only opens up new artistic possibilities and production methods for film and television but also offers broad applications in areas such as video game development and medicine.
MOCAP SYSTEMS: In late 2006, VAP conducted real-time tests involving the "Hugo" character interacting with a live actor in a virtual studio.
In 2008 and 2009, VIRTUAL VISION SA carried out production tests for the real-time simulation of characters from the 3D production BUG MULDOON.
